I am so, so disappointed that Anthony Mason has been replaced by an ex-football player, to make Gayle King happy.. I used to have so much respect for Gayle. When I had to stop watching NBC's morning news show after they destroyed Ann Currie's career, I was very
happy to find Gayle, Anthony and Tony on CBS and really enjoyed their morning banter.
No longer. I respect Anthony Mason as much as any television journalist I know of. His knowledge and appreciation of music of every vintage and stripe reminds me of the late, great Billy Taylor, who often contributed to 60 Minutes, "back in the day."
Last week, before I realized he had been dismissed so unceremoniously and replaced by Nate Burleson (who?), Mason contributed a piece, appearing on the show, and when I saw the hurt look on his face as he was introduced, I was prompted to look into what was going on. I was stunned to learn that Mason was replaced, summarily, simply to satisfy Gayle KIng's wish to have a young, sexy dude on the show. I still cannot believe that such an incredible resource, sensitive interviewer and wonderfully affable person was shown such callous disrespect. I hope other viewers of CBS"s Morning News will follow suit and send a message to the producers at CBS. Anthony Mason's absence is sorely felt by this viewer and I am certain I am not alone.
