Out of all the Indonesian horror films I've watched on Netflix, this one easily ranks as the worst so far.
Letโs start with the casting โ a complete mismatch. The lead actress Rara and the lead actor Sutan deliver performances so overacted and unconvincing that it becomes painful to watch. Their expressions are exaggerated, their emotional transitions feel forced, and even their line delivery lacks clarity and weight. Itโs rare to see leads so poorly suited for their roles, to the point where they drag the entire film down. Ironically, the supporting cast performed much better โ with more nuance, presence, and authenticity, despite their limited screen time.
The storyline? Sloppy and underdeveloped. The film lacks any real suspense, cohesion, or logic. It's a mix of tired tropes and shallow twists that fail to build any emotional or psychological depth. It feels rushed โ as if the plot was thrown together without proper thought or editing.
To make matters worse, the makeup and hairstyling are equally disappointing. Instead of adding to the horror atmosphere, they look unfinished, even amateurish. The styling often distracts from the scenes and only highlights the film's overall lack of polish.
A frustrating pattern in many Indonesian horror films โ and this one is no exception โ is placing a couple in a massive, eerie mansion in the middle of nowhere. Itโs an unrealistic setting thatโs been overused to the point of parody. This film leans heavily on that lazy setup, without offering anything fresh or meaningful.
Overall, this Netflix horror entry is a major letdown. Weak performances, poor direction, clunky storytelling, and superficial scares make it a forgettable watch. If youโre looking for a good horror film from Indonesia, this one is definitely not it. There are far better titles on Netflix that deserve your time and attention.
