The game has outstanding technical and art design. Audio and visuals are superb. Raytracing implementation is impressive. The game setting, atmosphere and story are interesting and great for dark scifi fans.
The Callisto Protocol does borrow a lot of elements from dead space and towards the end of the game it feels like a Dead Space game at times. However, it's not quite as special as Dead Space, sadly. The combat system can be entertaining when you learn how it works but it ca be unfair and frustrating at times. The focus on melee feels novel but gets old quickly. The biggest letdown for me was the checkpoint system though, it can be completely frustrating and infuriating to die because you failed to dodge 1 hit and then have to repeat a whole section of 10 or 15 minutes.
I pre ordered and played this game Day One because I wanted to support the devs and former creators of Dead Space. I don't regret it but I do hope they re design the combat and checkpoint systema if there's ever a sequel. I recommend this game if you are hard-core sci-fi horror fan.
