Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom gives us both ensemble acting at its best and a duo of powerhouse performances by Chad Boseman and Viola Davis—performances so good you forget all about acting. And yet in the end, more important than anything else, deepest homage must go to the unmatchable genius of the playwright: August Wilson.
