I had seen this film early on as a late-night in the early 70's. It has since then become one of my favorites. I'm not a critic or reviewer, but I'll give you my opinion.
This film caught my eye almost immediately. The acting was true-to-life. The characters were believable and real, almost like friends I was growing up with then. The story was, however, something I had never thought of until then. We had fire drills, but never a bomb drill. We always went back into the classrooms. We never had a teacher walk home with us.
Each child's vignette was a story in itself. I grew up with kids like this, went to their houses, were friends and neighbors of and played with them. It wasn't until the last shocking story that i realized I had heard of this happening before. I won't say what, but I had heard of this happening in real life.
This is a truly wonderful film and should be brought back to the public. Today is revisiting many of the same circumstances.
