So, I love Jane Austen novels and thoroughly enjoyed the Netflix series based on this book because it called up aspects of Austen’s work. I’m looking at the cover of this book and the author is lauded as “the Jane Austen of her generation.”
It’s a lie. The exposition was cringe and the conversations were like...things that a twelve-year-old might imagine a Regency-era person saying after watching “Pride & Prejudice” (the Kiera Knightly one, not the Colin Firth one). Oh also there are a lot of consent issues that could’ve easily been written out. This didn’t need to happen. It’s creepy.
Basically if you like the show and are curious about the books, don’t.
