The cgi wasn't as good as Shrek.

Ironically, in an attempt to make a statement about Blacks denying a dark history, Haile skips over a history of tribe leaders selling their own to Whites. It would be one star, but there's one interesting plot line of a man struggling with being a slave and half white. If that was all the movie tried to do it wouldn't have struggled to make a good point so much.

It might just be nostalgia and the fact that I'm a millennial, but I really liked this movie. It seemed like it captured the dark things we were going through when I was in junior high and the disconnect we had with adults. It has a really awesome cast too that overacts hard core, but that just punches home the themes of the movie very well. Not a masterpiece at all, but I think a certain group of people will love it.
