I understand wanting to appeal to a you get audience, but that's no excuse for the poor quality of this reboot. As a teen who grew up watching Ben 10, I am extremely disappointed with everyone involved in the production of this show. (Aside from the voice actors, most of which did a fabulous job). It makes me very sad to see how much of a horrible downgrade this was from the other entries in the series. I honestly do not know where to begin.
Lets start with the animation. The art style is okayish, but several of the characters were nearly in recognizable, especially some of Ben's older aliens. The show is packed with recycled animation, painfully obvious errors, and backgrounds that are in a completely different style from the characters to the point it's distracting not to mention the copy pasting, which is an issue all it's own.. I could understand if it was a one or two time deal, but the fact that this occured multiple times is proof of the laziness the animators clearly had. It was as if they simply didn't care. Even the transformation sequences lacked all the charm the previous series had
The show even ruined Ben's entire character, skipping over him getting the Omnitrix and growing accustomed to it in favor of extremely dry humor and turning him into an actual idiot. He did have his moments in the other series, but none of them were as bad as this. I must admit, the show did have some funny moments, but most of them were from the sheer stupidity of the storyline than actually humorous dialogue, such as in the newest episode with, and it makes me cringe to say this, Ben 10,000's whole backstory of Gwen and his grandpa getting vaporized by vilgax, and wanting to just "do everything on his own." The whole thing just seemed very forced and uninteresting, and same goes for the rest of the shows plot.
The fact that the show has so many poor reviews and is still being developed just proves cartoon network is not listening to their fans any more, and that is a mistake that might just drive away all the fans they had during their golden age. In all honesty, the only way someone could truly enjoy this series was if they had no knowledge of the previous installments, and with the audience the show seems to be attracting, that's clearly not going to be the case. As far as wanting to reach a younger generation, I'll be sure to show them what Ben 10 was at it's prime, and not the dumpster fire it's become.
