I watched this flick as an escape from the Primary "debates" the "wanna be's" got almost as loud as Pacific Rim, which, at least was offered as entertainment. as far as a monster genre, the 1933 King Kong is still the all-time champion.

although ww2 movies can be entertaining, with a hand-picked group of actors who can do comedy bits, this movie is one of the best pulse-pounding suspense movies in a ww2 setting. there is no time or place for cute march like tunes, or jokes. Burt Lancaster gives a towering performance as the engineer. Paul Scofield as the nazi colonel has fewer lines, but is riveting in his face and eye expressions. I saw this movie some years ago, and it made the same impressions.
