This film is a bit better than the first Doom film mainly due to its decent cinematography. Although, it is the exact same story (Humans find an ancient portal that can teleport people into different locations in seemingly no time). Unfortunately, it follows most of the pitfalls of the first film. The most obvious one would be incompetent soldiers. By that I mean when a hardened team of marines is supposed to be portrayed in your film make sure to take some rough-looking actors and not people look more suitable to be on the cover of a fashion magazine.
It takes the sisters' character from the first movie and gives it to a love interest who was in the marine academy who became a scientist. However, in the whole film, that character is covering behind the film's hero. Why would a person who was trained in handling weapons run around the place waving their empty hands when there are daemons attacking?
The evil scientist that has been done to death is another negative for me. As soon as the film starts you know the scientist is evil when the first test subject goes insane and the scientist still wants to proceed. The people who are in the film look like idiots when they can't see that.
two out of five stars because of decent cinematography.
