Horrible. Disturbing. I feel queasy, frightened, and anxious. The way I see it Franklin is the one to blame. He pushed Eva to leave her life, first as an adventurer, then as a New Yorker. She had no one by her side to guide her through motherhood. I don't care for the nature/nurture dichotomy all that much in this case because they aren't inherently opposite. I believe we are products of both. The only scene which confuses me on Eva's responsibility as a mother is the construction scene. The way I see the ending (Kevin killing everyone he could get his hands on except his mother); Kevin found his mother to be the only one who saw his true self and could not bring himself to kill her, knowing everything about him Eva is left as a mural for his life. Her quietness and meek personality is a result of her unwillingness to share his atrocities and in a sense unwilling to share his being which he craves more than anything (the harangue about televisions and people I think is a good proof for that). Overall great movie to watch if you want to kick yourself with spiked boots while you're down. Just want to say thanks to our psych teacher, all I wanted was to learn about human development outside my major and you made sure I never have kids <3
