Freedom Swimmer is a great book to understand what communist China was like. It focuses on Ming, who loses his family due to the Three Years of Natural Disasters and works in the fields to earn food. This book has some sophisticated descriptions but sometimes the characters seem to portray the wrong emotion.
Overall it was well written but has some areas to improve on.
