I began watching this show a few years ago and stopped watching for no particular reason. Life happens as they say, which is very much a theme of this show.
Forgetting where I left off, I started rewatching from the first episode. This resulted in binging until the final episode of the series, which I have just finished at the time of this review. I have no regrets.
The show begins with a family that has it all. Fame, wealth, etc. A picture perfect family, albeit dysfunctional. Just as quickly as the show begins, the family loses everything on a quick trip to rock bottom.
The show takes you through the journey of the family as they struggle to survive and hold onto any shred of their former lives in a small town they wouldn't have been caught dead in.
As the show progresses, you witness the metamorphosis of the family, as they learn to tread water when up a creek without a paddle. Specifically, Schitts Creek.
I would go as far as to say that the overall theme of the show is: even when you get caught up in the current, to keep treading water and move forward. A theme, while not intended originally, carries a much needed message as we continue through the Covid pandemic.
I laughed, I cried, and the more I watched, the more attached I felt to the characters. The show is well paced, fantastically written, with great character development and a strong finish on the series finale. I would highly recommend watching this show.
