I did say in my review of Kubrick's adaptation that I liked it for the standards it set for cinema, and our pop-culture. I do enjoy the novel way more, because it really flushes out the characters that Kubrick's film seems to lack, and the hotel in the novel is way better than Kubrick's version (Writers who write the location as a character like The Overlook Hotel like the novel, are amazing *cough cough* Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira with Neo-Tokyo). There is more story to the novel than Kubrick's film, and it has a lot more of a better end than Kubrick's film. So I would give "The Shining" by: Stephen King a perfect 11/10. Yeah I gave it 11, because I really liked the book.

I think Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's "The Shining" was a terrible adaptation, because it doesn't really follow the novel, it forgets the character development (leaving a lot of the characters feeling underwritten.), but I respect the film for what it has done for cinema, and our pop-culture. I did think the acting was good (since I really like Jack Nicholson for films like "Easy Rider", "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", "Batman", "Five Easy Pieces", and "A Few Good Men"). But Shelly Duvall doesn't do as well as him, but I do respect her for being in this movie, since Kubrick hated her. So I do not like the movie, but I will watch it, and respect it for what it done for Pop-Culture and Cinema. So "The Shining" is well deserved of this thumbs up.

I felt "Doctor Sleep" was a perfect sequel to "The Shining" (I only say this because I am not fond of Stanley Kubrick's adaptation, but I do respect the movie for what it did to cinema and pop culture). I feel the movie perfectly captures the feel of Stephen King's novel, but also takes bits and pieces of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining", but it also takes bits and pieces of Stephen King's 1977 novel of "The Shining". So its the best of both worlds for both Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick fans.
