Much like Rise before it, Shadow of the Tomb raider is a retread of the plot and character arcs of the first game, Tomb Raider: A Survivor is Born, with a unhealthy heaping of padding and makes Lara less relevant to the overall plot of this game. Not helping matters is that more then half the main game is more akin to a walking simulator with less stealth, combat, puzzle solving and exploration then ASIB.
Another nail in the coffin is just how bland and forgettable the rest of the cast is. Jonah is still the same bland, worse than useless character he was at the start of the series, lacking any of the strengths of Sam who is still my favorite character in the series .
And than we have Lara who has lost a lot of her more relatable character traits, becoming more selfish and unlikable as a result and has now gotten more innocent people killed in the first half hour of the game then Trinity has in the entire series. And not helping matters is that Lara is never called out on this and and in fact tries to pin the blame on Trinity who would have left the dagger alone cause they actually knew better.
For me, Lara is now more like Kratos at the end of the God of War Olympus Trilogy which made Kratos more selfish and more and more unlikable that the next game in the series spent 20+ hours trying to fix that problem. Hopefully Lara's next adventure will see her reunite with Sam and work to make her more human and relatable like in A Survivor is Born.
