I'm rating it 5 stars if only because it slammed me with nostalgia. Mechwarrior 4 mercs/vengeance were both my favorite games at a time when I was a kid, and this newest one still has that same appeal that the old ones did 17-19 years ago.
It really doesn't break any new ground, or really change things up too drastically from the older single player mechwarriors, but in my eyes that's Ok. I love it for what it is.
(the cinematics leave a lot to be desired by today's general standard, and the voice acting can make you laugh when it shouldn't, but these are small things to someone like me who enjoys large stompy gunfights and the systematic destruction of your opposition.)
-Great visuals
-Good sound
-Checkerboard, but otherwise serviceable randomly generated maps
-Lots of familiar faces (with the mechs, not so much the characters XD)
-The story does what it needs to, but doesn't inspire awe
-Stomping around with more weapons than you generally need, but wouldn't leave in the hanger given the option.
