I read this book back in the 1980’s along with other books about animals, like Man O War, when I was about 12. I remember how terrible and awful the dog’s experience and suffering was and what a long journey he had to undertake before he had peace, and they really did skim over that part in this movie. Needless to say, I still enjoyed watching this movie with my 17 yr old tonight but other than key plot points, it’s a big departure from the extent of suffering the dog endured in this book, and how long it took him to find his way. I would consider this movie to be “inspired by” the Call of the Wild by Jack London.
