non spoiler!!!
I usually dislike sequels or remakes of movies. I saw Top Gun (original) probably 10 times in the movies theatre with friends. And watched it again as a rental in the 90’s.
A movie that brings nostalgic times of high school and friendships. It also brought heartache as just before the movie came out, a high school friend had died, which made the movie poignant as the grief was still fresh in our minds, and real sense of loss when Goose died in this first film.
It is also a huge part of pop culture as Airplane! Back in the 80’s did.
I feel the need… the need for speed! Along with so many other lines.
While this movie didn’t have the pop culture speaking lines, it showed how age went from cool cockiness to experienced finesse.
It had a more refined tame storyline that wasn’t overly lusty sexual like the first one, and had me on the edge of my seat. I literally was biting my nails in some of the scenes.
I am a true adrenaline junkie and fly in stunt planes for fun. This movie I’m sure had many flying cgi moments, but it truly was seamless. Flight sequences were amazing, and truly was fun to watch.
I now wish I could have seen it in the theatre. I watched it at home, and it still was an amazing film.
I will definitely watch this movie again.
For those with small children: there wasn’t overt sex or sexual tension, and the violence wasn’t bad at all. For those who are grieving, you certainly will not feel the heaviness of the loss the way we experienced it in the first film.
Great job.
My only complaint is that I wish they brought back Kelly McGillis’s Charlie character. It would have been nice to know the story of what happened to her, or even a reference to the character.
