Although I read the abridged Cambridge edition about forty years ago I feel Paradise Lost by Milton should be read by every one. It is a literary work of the highest class. It is gorgeous in the depth of thought and imagination carrying with it true beauty of language. It will never go into oblivion. And his sonnet on his blindness assumes the grandeur of high self realization which an ordinary man takes a long patient journey through life to reach. I have not read anything in English literature of such lofty thoughts.Shakespeare with his wealth of immortal works reflects on life. Milton realizes. Milton is a devotee with Bhakti(in Indian traditions of thoughts) whereas Shakespeare is a detached philosopher.
