Maula Jatt – 1979
Revenge to Humanity, Maula Jatt get it all covered in this all in one classical entertainer with lots of Drama, music, a pinch of comedy and mind-blowing performances by both on-screen and off-screen teams.
Maula Jatt (Sultan Rahi) and Noori Natt (Mustafa Qureshi) are into a revenge story started by Daaro Nattni (chakori) as his brother being disparaged by Jatts against his ultimate status in whole Punjab for misbehaving with a woman. At any point, it doesn’t seem to be an ordinary story of revenge, but we see power and status going from one character to another from starting and it does not seem to be very elongated, as in the mid-story only, we get to see the strong fight between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt which doesn’t come to any result because of the intervention of police which doubles the excitement and makes the viewer think how it’s going to happen further, which is brilliantly oriented and written by director Yunus Malik and writer Nasir Adib. And here comes the powerful song very beautifully portraying the situation “eh te vella aap dassega, kon marda maidan”, which says, time will tell, who will win. Although all the songs are very pleasing and moving, composed by Inayat Hussain. And other than the satisfying story, what made it more dramatic is camera work and editing with those fast zoom in and zoom outs to show the real intense impact of the scene, those POV shots in the fight scenes and the fast camera shifts from character to character within a scene while they are delivering the dialogues, Oh yes! The dialogues, Oh my God! What a brilliant work with dialogues and Kudos to the actors delivering these powerful debating dialogues against each other with a wonderful body language. To some, it may look like overacting, but as all the characters having the same pace and energy, so it got covered.
Revenge story turns into Humanity as the movie ends with the strong message in the dialogue “Insaniyat Inteqam nahi, insaaf chahndi hai” which says Humanity needs Justice, not Revenge.
