Labelled as a trivial comedy fiction, this book is without a doubt one such kind. The real conflict of the plot unfolds as two men forge their identities and claim themselves as Ernest- a Christian name on which two young ladies develop an attraction. Subsequently, the young ladies readily fall in love with them. What happens when they find out the real names and history of the men they’re in love with remains the climax of the story. Despite the fact that the characters in the plot are only of high society in England, their foolishness and affinity towards belonging to the high society are significant throughout the story. Knotted by trivial sense of humour and twists, this work of Oscar Wilde deserves at least a one-time read.
