In general, I think it's fresh, compelling, and heartfelt. Kerry Washington's acting is stellar as usual. I agree with another reviewer that Delroy Lindo's character, his acting, and the portrayed relationship between him and and his grandson's character are the best parts of the show. The aspect of the show I liked the least is Kerry Washington's "inner child" character (while the young actress is great)- this storytelling device just doesn't work for me in the way it's overused! It's silly and over the top, and the way they have this child cursing excessively- it's cringeworthy and unnecessary. However, they DID use the inner child plot device well with Delroy's character. Despite my one criticism, overall, I really enjoyed the show and I'm looking forward to a second season!!

I think it's a shame that the majority of reviews are complaining that Naomi's life is "too perfect" and she is "too well liked" and "not enough conflict." Are we so conditioned by mainstream media to think that ALL STORIES with a Black main character have to be about struggle, hardship, drama and oppression???? GOOD LORD. Some people have happy, well adjusted lives! And anyway...It's a show about an alien girl with superpowers from an alternate universe!! Everything doesn't have to be dark and broody. It's a comic for crying out loud!! Are there complaints that Spiderman is too cute and spunky, or do people just enjoy?? Relax! Take a break from the problems of the world and allow this show to breathe. I for one have enjoyed these first three episodes and find it refreshing.
