The character designs are beautiful and the animation is fine when everyone is standing still, but action scenes are very choppy. It's a problem that digital animation seems unwilling to resolve. It's not a good thing when your actions scenes don't engage the audience especially when so little attention is given to the actual plot, or what there is of it. It is particularly infuriating that a 4 hour show based on a game about saving people from vampires is instead used as yet another soapbox for executives to pretend that they are hip and with it by complaining about society just like the young people. The fact that the characters drone on and on about political issues is not only distracting, but stops the plot in it's tracks for yet another lecture on issues everybody already knows. The characters become unrelatable and entirely dehumanized regardless of gender. Good writing uses political subjects and social commentary with great care in the subtlety of the deliverance. To constantly bring it up again and again in the most blatant of terms assumes the audience is stupid, which is not only lazy, but very insulting. It is why writers must be free of interference from the powers that be and simply be left to wright a great story. Most anime fans already know that women and minorities are real people who have been the victims of injustice and should be treated with respect, the reason why is because most of them were often ostracized themselves for liking anime. These people watch anime to escape from all that, not to have it cruelly dropped into their laps to remind them that the outside world still hates them.
