Nothing special, an ordinary metroidvania with a retro look copying Cuphead artstyle. It got me surprized to see the Konami name in a so indie title, it felt like I was playing some kind of term paper from a graduate team.
The art initially caught my eye but soon became boring: well drawn but too childish. The "old cartoon" effect is what kept me interested, although the general desing (characters, backgrouds, enemies) was... boring.
I dont give two cents about the story in videogames, I just want to press butons and achive objectives. But I took the time to follow this story and it's pretty much cliché: an uknown hero that saves the day with a small plot twist in the end. Nothing really interesting, once again kind of childish. The attempts to jokes during the gameplay were laughable - not in a good way.
The controls and physics were the most awful. First, there's neither invulnerability nor pushback when taking damage. You can die almost instantly by things that are not intent to do so due the lack of such mechanism. This is frustating in some parts like the big rotating blades that are supposed to slight damage you but keep spining and draining your HP.
Then the wall jump gimmick: this is litteraly the worst part in my opinion. Pressing the directional against a wall makes you grab and slide it down, but to wall jump you have to push the opposite directional. In most games wall jumps are performed by simply pushing the jump button against the wall, but not this one here. I had a hard time adapting to it, and did not trully mastered it. The inconvenience is that I wall jump when I just want to fall from the wall; I'm used to fall from hanging in wall by pushing whatever direction, but here this made me jump against instant death spikes several times, what was a real pain.
Finally the lengh and the difficult: it took me about six hours to finish it without rushing and going back to explore some areas more than once. There's not much content in fact. The dungeons and puzzles are enterntaining but short. The difficulty is either too easy in some aspects but too dificult in others. The aforementioned wall jump and damage mechanic make some parts not exactly difficult but extremely frustating. But then you have the AI that is quite dumb. Most enemies don't put up a fight and even bosses are too simple. Sure I upgraded my character as much as I could before facing them, but even with few upgrades it would have took like three or four tries to kill each one with patience to learn their easy attack patterns.
Overal is regular etertaining game that give you a few hours of amusement. It worth the 7$ I paid, but would be really p*ssed if I had paid 30$.
