Having watched Veep and finished watching Parks and Rec recently, I was quite surprised when I found Mr. Mayor as a new satirical TV show. I originally dismissed this show thinking it as another attempt at American politics, but after watching a few episodes I really enjoyed it. Maybe because this is the only political comedy show that is set in the now, in the time of Twitter, pandemics, Shawn Mendes and “finsta”, I love all the Millennial references. Having Orly as a character who aspires to be a leader is maybe leaning the show towards younger (Zoomer) audiences, compared with other shows, which I love the idea of.
Ted Danson is admittedly a bit too old to play Orly’s father, I think grandfather would suit better. However he is great for his role, tall, goofy and charismatic, perfect to play a political role.
The episode about Orly fretting about life being a permanent high school was brilliant, and shows the clever writing behind the show. I can’t wait for season 2!
