I didn't expect to like the movie as much as I did. It shows how both men are in a way, both victims of a repressive hetero environment that gives men who are struggling with themselves reason for violence. And that gives transmen and/or drag queens reasons to be vilified. Both characters are complex and rendered so beautifully by George and Nathan with such layered performances not to mention that fantastic script that afforded them the words to do that. I honestly almost cried at the end when Preston, who had really started to accept his life and love Jules in his way collapses in tears. And Jules who had come to love him as well. The end scene where Jules sees the yellow sweatshirt gifted from Preston broke my heart. People are complex creatures and both actors played to that beautifully. More than 5 stars if I could. This film and performances are award worthy1

There was something so amazing about this series. The acting was SPECTACULAR, truly. As a once practicing Catholic, it's hymns, ceremonies, etc resonated and I found myself by elevated and horrified. Mike Flanagan's script and direction was impeccable. I can only say that as a screenwriter, I aspire to it. Hamish Linklater as the delusion minister, Kate Siegel as the series true heroine and Samantha Sloyan as the heinous self righteous acolyte were the true standouts; their performance was incredible. I recommend this highly. 5 stars isn't enough. I was moved.

Entertaining, fluffy fun with a serious undertone about mysogynistic, homophobic and racist Hollywood in the 50's (no wait, 2020's ???) that never becomes preachy or self-righteous. Part fact and part fantasy, I enjoyed the sharp crisp writing and lovely pacing, depth of character portrayals but an A1 cast in some really poignant scenes. 10 stars if there was another row.
