First of all, I want to thank and congratulate everyone who worked on this game. Every developer, artists, graphic designers, editors, actors, and engineer, you guys did a great job. After playing this game, I asked myself why we need PS5 if we can make this kind of game on PS4? Incredible graphics, amazing AI, fantastic gameplay, beautiful environment, and game design. FIVE STARS FOR EVERY ONE WHO WORKED ON THIS GAME!!!
However, I'm not going to rate this game five stars. Why? Because sadly, the directors, writers, and creators of this game did a horrible job. Before I continue for those who do not understand why so many people are angry about the story? The answer is simple. First, you have to realize that there is two types of gamers, one who focus mostly on gameplay and does not get much engages in the storyline, and the other type is the type of players who get so engaged in the game where they feel they are part of it. The second type of gamers I mention is the one that feels bad about the game and rates it 1 star.
So what is wrong about the story? First, the main character of The Last of Us Joel died in the first hour or less of gameplay, and his death was so cold that almost meant nothing. The problem is not that he died, but the problem is the way he died. Of course, that didn't stop me from playing the game, so I said to myself, let me focus on Ellie because, like mentioned earlier, I like to engage in these kinds of games emotionally. I had a lot of fun playing with Ellie, and I was so attached to her, and I also loved Dina's character. However, All of a sudden, I have to switch to another role, which's Abby. I was like WHAT?!!! It's like starting a new game with a different character. I literally have to take a break from the game for about 3 days so that I can be de-attached from Ellie and play with Abby.
After my 3 days break from the game, I played with Abby, but honestly couldn't care less about her and the other roles in her storyline. The more I continue playing with Abby, the less I'm interested in continuing to play the game. The story of Abby was so obvious, and nothing exciting in it. I didn't feel any emotion with any of the characters around Abby like Owen, Mel, Lev, and others. I even sometimes forgot their names. I had to force myself to continue the game just to see what's going to happen at the end.
We are so focused on Ellie why would I care to play with Abby or any other character? I think the Director of The Last of Us has never played video games before. I didn't understand what is point the writer trying to reach the gamers? Ellie and Joel are just bad people, and if they die, you shouldn't feel sorry for them? Or why Ellie went with all the troubles to kill Abby, and she spares her at the end? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS GAME?!!!
Finally, I think the creator of "The Last of Us 1," he got stuck in the story and did not know where to go from there. Happen to writers and directors all the time, and we saw it with Game of Thrones and how it ended. I think if he made a different story from part 1 for example, a whole game about Abby would make more sense and it will be reasonable. Honestly, if there was a skip button just to see the end of the story, I would press it from last week. That's how bad the story was.
