I loved this movie. I'm especially a fan of Saoirse Ronan, whom I've watched since she was 13 years old and played the bratty Briony in the film ATONEMENT. As she got older, I loved her in the film - I think it was called BROOKLYN -- where she's an Irish girl who sets sail for the New World to escape a complicated love affair at home and meets a similar fate in the New York borough of the title.
Then she did MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS, where she played the title role scheming and losing to Queen Elizabeth I. Thereafter she became a full-fledged star, and won an Oscar, for her performance in LADY BIRD. And finally last year she was brilliant as Jo in the new filming of LITTLE WOMEN.
Kate Winslet is her equal. Seeing the two of them together in this movie was total pleasure to me. But I give it four stars rather than five because I realize that the very slow pace will make this movie hard to sit through for many people, and I expect the reviews to be less than stellar for that reason.
