Well..... I consider myself to be a true Jane Austen fan loving all her period dramas in book form and cinema. I was quite surprised at this series use of sex which is totally out of character for the time period as are the modern values the show pushes. Another review rightly suggests it should be billed as historical fantasy instead of historical fiction. The fantasy part I did like was the multiracial aspect of the cast. It was refreshing and as it should be. The acting ,costumes and scenery are all excellent. The series does draw one in - there is strong chemistry between the 2 leads but IMO some things are better left to the imagination ;) Really liked the backstory of the Duke and how Daphne’s character helps to bring him back into the light. Without the explicit sex scenes and modern values injected, this would be a really nice way to spend an evening. Wish they had stayed with an authentic period piece.
