The first of the AFL video games where you can *actually* implement tactics. Also the first AFL game i've played where bombing it down the line isnt always the best option. As such, its easily the best AFL game out there.
Having said that, this game - like all AFL video games to date - is riddled with issues. Put simply, it builds (or evolves) from AFL Evolution 1: the marking contest is much better, you can spread the ball and run off the wings more easily, and the hand-ball game is improved - but still problematic. Handballs are still unruly and, too often, ineffective because of the awkward targeting system. Moreover, while the contest has been improved, its still really tough to follow the ball in the rucks; too many times i have been pinged for 'holding the ball' when i didnt realise i had it!
Having said that, still too many of the frustrating things from the first installment remain. The career management system makes some absurd choices (e.g. playing small forwards in the ruck); the computer can still snap a goal from 50 metres around the body while running away from goals; high tackles are still awarded randomly (*why!?*); the tackling and targeting system are still clunky.
AFL Evolution 2 is what it is. Its better than all the others, but still not the best. Still, its the best thing short of donning the boots, yourself. I wouldnt pay full price for it - but im still pretty happy to have played it.
