I would not list it so much as a comedy, although it does have it's moments, Mary's ability to drop everything and bolt at the drop of a hat, for one, and the fluid dialog that seems like something someone would actually say. Being a lifelong fan of all things that go bump in the night, I thought I would be eager to skip through scenes to get straight to the supernatural parts of the show, but I found myself getting truly sucked into the storyline and drama.
I feel like a lot of the drama they deal with, along with the inner darkness that comes from things out of our control (such as circumstances like her being a wolf, or having a medical condition, or mental illness) are so relatable. They each have something we can all relate to, unless you're a freakishly normal person which, come on, we all have issues in some way or another. I myself felt a connection to all of the characters. It was all refreshingly deep!
Being a parent with things involved that are out of one's control, having a condition one can't get rid of that not only affects them but also has the potential to destroy those around them, and the inner challenges that we all secretly struggle with which could ultimately lead to one's own downfall.
I highly suggest giving this a watch with no real expectations. Absorb it at face value. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how awesome it really is! The acting, script, and storyline are all so fantastic. The actual wolf, however, was honestly really awful lol which, let's face in, aren't they always?
