The book is about Marino and the challenges that the an Italian Immigrant faced moving to a new country (Canada). He talks about the challenges the non-unionized construction workers faced with little or no safety regulations and problems with the contractors where the workers cheques would bounce. With the unions they had strikes to fight to get safety regulation in place and to fight against the corruption with contractors. He also talks about how he was the president of the union and the union board members forced him out. He also organizes a committee to create a memorial to honour the Italian Immigrants who lost their lives in industrial accidents. As a son of a Italian bricklayer contractor, it is worth reading to discover the history of the Italians who came to Canada, in this case Toronto who worked in construction.
