After Malaikottai Vaaliban, which I couldn't watch beyond 20 minutes, Barroz is his next worst movie. Some of the co-actors can't act to save their lives; dialogue delivery by most of them is excruciating; the animation scenes were hopelessly mediocre; some of the sets are quite cheap-looking, especially da Gama's ship. Above all, why bring up a chapter in history yesterday has foul memories for Indians on the west coast.

Except for the utterly boring and long-drawnout last fight scene on the aircraft, the movie was tolerably good.

The series may seem a bit dated, having run from 2010 to 2016, looking at it from the vantage point of 2025. But some things don't really change drastically, interpersonal relationships, parent-child relationships, etc. What struck me as truly insane were the decisions that some of the characters continued to take, going from bad to worse, never learning from past experiences, never realising when they're in a good place, and then going on to destroy it. Parents succumbing to the demands of children, parents with a child and in a happy relationship, going on to foster/adopt the son of a woman doing jail time (if the boy were not highly disturbed, maybe it would work out, but that's not the case) and then proceeding to ruin their little girl's happiness because of wrong choices. Oh well, parts of this drama series were interesting, but most of it was a lesson in what not to do....

Awesome movie, with powerful acting by Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.

The series began in a thrilling manner, until episode 9 of season 1, when we're told that young Isaiah of 10000 BC grows up to be Gavin, having passed through a sinkhole to 1988. In the interests of science fiction that can be believed, but not the transition from a very blond boy to a very black-haired adult!! How could the casting director have allowed this to happen? 🤣🤣🤣

The best drama series I've ever watched. Read all the books too, that have been published to date. Any comparison between books and movies will end up unfair to both. To a very great extent, the series brought the books to life, but of course casting cannot always be perfect. So too, the scripting of very longwinded books will have to leave much out, and change a few facts. A few hiccups with casting aside, and all said and done, the books and the series have complemented each other, and have been very soul-satisfying.

An unbelievable thing is that the doctor announces the baby has Downs Syndrome so late into the pregnancy, when there are tests to detect it as early as 10 weeks, and certainly during the 18th week battery of tests that are usually conducted.

Thank God I watched the 1995 movie first. It was perfect -- casting, acting, picturisation, and all. Ang Lee did justice to the story. As for this 2008 version, I read somewhere that the "aim behind this miniseries was to make viewers forget Emma Thompson's adaptation." Far from forgetting the 1995 interpretation, this 2008 series drove home the realisation that its only saving grace was Dan Stevens as Edward Ferrers.

Excellent drama series (!), indeed a lesson in what not to do. The main character, and a whole bunch of other characters too -- keeping on making the same mistakes over and over again, and never learning from their bad experiences!! And some of them are supposed to be clever lawyers! 🤣🤣

I absolutely loved DiP, and was overjoyed to discover BP. But Chris Marshall's Humphrey in this series is a bit of a disappointment. Not his personality or his quirks: they're as enjoyable as ever. But his face looks ravaged and much older than his DiP version. Age catching up on the actor, or just a poor make-up artist? As the series wound down to the Christmas special, it seemed to become weirder. A wedding gets cancelled for no significant reason; Humphrey and Martha take in a temporary foster child Ryan. So far so good. But suddenly, in the Christmas Special, the very same boy is little thief being kept in the police station until a social worker can come pick him up.
