By keeping the story within a controlled time-frame and avoiding 'after school special' sermonizing, the film is more successful than the TV series. There's no romantic glow about the relationship. Diana is obsessed with Eric, a smug shallow-boy man who offers her no real support or caring. She is neither a 'hot teacher' fantasy, nor a target for being framed as a stereottypical 'predator.' Its just 75 minutes long and sweeps through to catastrophe.
