There is a moment, a feeling that anyone who has swam in deep ocean water experiences: the moment when you put your foot down and do not feel the bottom. Trying to keep your head above water, it's the moment you realize that there is no bottom to prop you up. It's the scene in '2001: a Space Odyssey' when Dave asks "what happens now?" This movie captures that feeling in a rare way, and with none of the big-budget spectacle normally associated with the greats of sci-fi. This is a love letter to old science fiction, stripped down to bare bones and beautifully executed. Quiet conversations building in tension, frantic races against time, and moments of pure adrenalin are brought to life in two lovingly crafted characters. The audience will have to do their bit to keep up, but will be rewarded with this swim in the deep ocean.
