Sam Raimi's Spider-man movies are the best of all. This movie has everything that it takes to make a great movie ,a great script , great villain , great actors , great soundtrack etc. Tobey's portrayal of Peter Parker is outstanding he perfectly showcases the innocence and responsibility that peter needs to have. Tobey's Spider-man stands on his own and Dafoe's Green-Goblin is menacing in this movie.
Though many people complain that Tobey's Spider-man is serious and doesn't crack jokes while fighting his enemies that I think is complete BS. There are many instances in this movie when does deliver funny one-liners against his movies for eg. When he is fighting Bonesaw he asks him about his clothes by saying ," That's a cute outfit did your husband give it to you." or the moment when Goblin crushes into Daily Bugle and Spider-man webs Jameson's mouth and says," Hey kiddo, let mom and dad talk for a minute". All in all this movie is much better representation of Spider-man in comparsion to amazing Spider-man and MCU Spider-man in which Peter is shown portrayed as an irresponsible guy who endangers gwen stacy's life even after making a promise to her father that he won't talk to her and does everything that peter parker won't do like riding skateboards, wearing contacts and acting like a idiotic hispster whereas in MCU's case there is no Uncle Ben and he has been replaced by Tony Stark. Also in MCU's iteration of spider man Aunt may has an affair with Happy Hogan plus Spider-man is too dependent on Tony Stark as if he is his sidekick.
Though Raimi's Spider-man too deviates from the source material like using organic webs instead of web shooters apart from that everything remains same as in comics.
In the end the greatest highlight of this movie is Danny's Elfman's Spider-man theme. There's no way that any future Spider-man movie is going to have a theme song better than this one. This theme captures the essence of responsibility which Spider-man is carrying on his shoulders.
