A movie aware of its pretentiousness in a way that somehow makes it even more pretentious. The dialogue is terrible, and somehow takes several very gifted actors who I typically enjoy, and makes them look like they’re starring in their first Woody Allen inspired school film. (A plot point that also manages to appear in the movie, making it both too on the nose and painfully awkward to sit through comfortably).
It’s redundant, and fails at refreshing a classic style, instead feeling like a parody of itself and its director.
