I knew going in that I probably wasn't going to like this movie but I wanted to give it a try anyway. I have watched a few other movies that JLo did in the 2000's and I enjoyed those but this one... This one does not do her justice. First of all the plot felt very rushed. I was hoping there was going to be more depth for the characters, especially in the beginning. If there is any 'depth' to the characters, it's rather passive. Like how Charlie lost his mother and divorced his previous wife but shows no real emotion to that at all? He just seems kind of "meh" about it all even though those are some pretty substantial things.
I agree with some of the other reviews that it didn't seem like there was a lot of chemistry between Kat and Charlie. Though I'm not a fan of Matthew McConaughey, I think he might have actually been a better fit for the role of Charlie. The only reason I say that is because I've seen him and JLo in The Wedding Planner and they seemed to have more chemistry than this.
Let's not forget the infamous "Church" song in the beginning either. I'm not Catholic so I'm not personally offended but it was just... strange. When I go to sit down and watch what I think is going to be a sweet rom com, then suddenly I see a bunch of ladies dressed up as half naked dancing nuns... I can't say that's something I really expected. But hey, that's just me.
Dancing nuns aside, unfortunately the overall movie felt very manufactured and like one big advertisement. The songs sounded overly produced. I know JLo has talent when it comes to music so this really surprised and disappointed me. It also just felt like one product placement or advertisment after another. It was really awkward at times.
I think it had the potential to be a lot more interesting than it was and in my opinion, this movie definitely didn't live up to the hype.
