I have mixed feelings about this new version of "Boys In The Band". While it was good, it did not match the drama and intensity of the original story. It seemed more like well known actors doing a serious word for word parody film, without adding much to it. Other then to act it out scene for scene, without adding much to it.
I did like the few flashbacks, where each role recalled former flings, but, I think they could have made it more interesting by doing more with that. Like letting us see what was really going on with the straight guy and his former friend and love interest that the Jim Parsons role was so sure he had.
With that said, I think the best role was Harold. He had him down perfectly. Not quite as good as the original, but pretty darn close. As for Jim Parsons he had really great moments, and others where you thought he would break into Sheldon from big bang theory. But, to me, that might have made him more entertaining.
It was a good film, but, not as great as I expected, for being way too much like the original. With no originality.
With that said I have seen the new Rocky Horror Picture Show with Lavern Cox, and while not nearly as great as the original film. It at least found it's own idenity in the story line. I guess I wish this one did too. Think it could have been better.
