Hidden in darkness by S. J. Stewart was a genuinely fun read. There were many exciting details to latch onto throughout the story. Stewart hooked me in at the beginning of the story with her character introduction to Melas, and the rhythm of her writing pushed me to want to continue reading chapter after chapter. The distinct character voices and dynamics made it fun and interesting to learn about each of the characters that she was creating in the world. She also did a great job describing the new and unique settings developed for this world. There were a few areas in the writing that I feel could be a little more refined. However, the book's overall value in the book far outweighs any personal writing preferences, in my opinion. Stewart brings a new twist to fantasy by having a main character dealing with the challenges of not remembering who she is in a fantastical world while still caring for her young daughter. She also created a new spin on traditional fantasy characters such as vampires, incubi, and pixies. If you are a fantasy lover who appreciates stories with action, strong character dynamics, and an interest in Worldbuilding mechanics. In that case, you will undoubtedly enjoy reading this gem!
