When I saw that Inuyasha was getting a continuation, I was over the moon. I enjoyed it as a kid and rewatched it so many time, so what could possibly go wrong in a show about his and Sesshomaru’s kids? Well...everything.
The show started off pretty strong when they were in Towa’s timeline, but when they got to the feudal era, it REALLY started to drag. The villains sucked and the fighting scenes were super bland. Things were resolved a bit to easily and they seemed like the writers were just throwing things at a wall to see what sticks.
Towa was interesting to me at first, but then became really whiny to me and was basically a Mary Sue. She was not allowed to make mistakes and was flawless. Same goes for Setsuna. She was basically an even blander version of Sesshomaru, but Sesshomaru had more emotions and was able to stay interesting. Moroha also falls into the category of being just like her dad, but in her case, it worked well and she quickly became a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, she is used as a punchline and is constantly nerfed to make the other main characters look good.
The story lacks proper direction and there seems to be no goal. There’s a plot about a “dream butterfly” but I could really care less about Setsuna’s sleep schedule.
The original cast seems to be very out of character. Inuyasha and Kagome aren’t even raising there kid and are trapped in some pearl. Sesshomaru, for some reason, is evil again and ditches his daughters in a forest to be a wondering hermit. Kikyo is back as a tree spirit for whatever reason. Rin is in a coma. Sango has been reduced to being just Miroku’s wife and for some reason, Miroku isn’t respected by his own son.
The big mystery was who is the mom of Sesshomaru’s kids and (Spoiler alert) the mom was a teenaged Rin. This pairing is already disturbing enough, but to try to make it canon in this show is disgusting. They couldn’t even bother to make her an adult. She was 15 when she had the twins. Doing this, they have ruined the character of Sesshomaru and the beautiful relationship he had with Rin.
Yashahime is poorly written fanfiction with a huge budget. To anyone who may come across this review, when watching Inuyasha, stop at Final Act. You’ll be doing yourself a favor.
