Hollywood has lost their art for telling a story. It's sad, too, because everything else about 1917 is well done. A soldier is given a critical assignment, he encounters many difficulties along the way, he perserviers as best he can. That's really all of it. It seems that Hollywood is either unable or unwilling to invest in character development, figuring, I suppose, that movie goers won't ask for a refund as long as you provide them with a realistic version of a video game.
