Not much to say other than “In the Heights” as a musical felt too much like a musical, if that makes sense? I personally could’ve gone without some of the musical numbers because they pretty much repeated itself.
For instance, Nina had I think four songs talking about the same struggles of Stanford and feeling the pressure of being the one to “get out” of Washing Heights. I understood that from the first song she did discussing that, it felt like overkill to sing about it three more times.
And to that I think in some ways was this film’s detriment. I wasn’t drawn to any of the characters and the plot line didn’t really flow for me because most of the “plot points” were sung. In some instances why not just have a moment of clear dialogue and a breath from the musical numbers? (Which I found to be quite noisy, sorry).
Honestly I couldn’t finish the remaining 30 minutes, it just was all too much of a sensory overload.
