Once upon a time, back in season 1 and 2, I would've happily rated this show 5 stars. But after the release of season 3, I've started to like this show a little less. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good show and it stole my heart back when it was released in 2014. I took such a liking to this show because I loved the plot and the characters and how it was a really meaningful kids show and I loved the ROMANCE. I ship Marinette and Adrien with all of my heart and I love their personality equally (I probably like Adrien's a little bit more at times but whatever). Plus, the fact that this show supports female empowerment is amazing and probably one of the biggest reasons why I still watch it today.
But there are some things about season 3 that I didn't like that much. One of the biggest problems I had with the latest season was that Marinette was made into more of an obsessive fan of Adrien's. She tried breaking into his house once just because she was sent a photo of another girl kissing Adrien's cheek. Not only that but a fireman (who was a grown adult) helped her break into his house. I don't think that sends a good message to young kids, especially when the show displays adults encouraging Marinette's behavior.
There is also the fact that the episodes are getting a bit more repetitive. The beginning of most episodes is Marinette doing something while there's this person on the sidelines getting upset about a thing that matters to them, causing them to get akumatized. Marinette and Adrien see this and they transform into their alter egos and attempt to fight off the akumatized victim. At first, they have trouble defeating the supervillain but then Ladybug calls her lucky charm and bada bing bada boom she saves the day. After the victim gets returned to his/her/their normal self, Marinette and her classmates make the person feel better and their problem gets solved and yay it's the end of the episode. I don't mind the fact that all the episodes in s1 maintained this plotline because that is normal for shows but I expected s2 and s3 to start changing a bit. I would appreciate it if the show tried something different for every episode instead of just saving the different plotlines for the season finales but that's just my opinion.
That being said, I like this show but I really hope that it doesn't continue down this path and that Marinette toughens up or becomes less obsessive. I know that there are a lot of people who love this show to death and who probably won't agree with my lengthy review but I hope it helps people anyway. Please give this show a try because there is still a chance that it will turn itself around in s4 and I genuinely enjoyed the first two seasons.
