Okja is a bit jarring at first; The cartoonish villains gave me the off-putting impression that the script for an animated film was produced as live-action without alterations. No one in this movie behaves like a real person, which puts Okja in the company of movies like The Santa Clause, where good and evil are drawn with clear broad strokes.
However, Okja sets itself apart with passion that shows through even the goofiest characters. It’s clear that everyone in the movie believed in its greatness, and that earnestness won me over. I would recommend this as a child’s first introduction to what meat is and was.
