Heart breaking film about the struggle of losing jobs due to political decisions made to save money for the the fat cats pockets. Miner workers left without work with little to no help financially, psychologically and health care wise.
Yes, the story is centred around a brass band and I love the way they portray the relationship between bands men and women in rehearsal and how it affects their lives as a community of people they might otherwise not have. For some the band was all they had when the lost their job at the mine. The inspiring story is somewhat an underdog story and shows some of the intensity experienced during the competitions these bands played in.
Dealing with poverty, politics, health issues, musical companionship, musical therapy, loss, suicide, unemployment. This film is gritty and is a typical British movie suitable for the small screen.
