Before one watches this movie, he or she needs to understand the simplicity of the plot in order to appreciate it. Think about real feline cats: their personality may seem complex but their day to day lives are quite simple. Also, I’ve read most of T.S Eliot’s poetry that included much of “cat-like” imagery so I did understand the idea behind this plot. (I did not read his book on cats, however). Victoria, I believe, is the newcomer cat, and she learns about the personalities of the other cats through song and dance (and actions). These cats are also trying to prove their worth of being the chosen one for a new life. My personal opinion is that Old Deuteronomy acts as God, (judging and choosing the one who carries off to heaven) whereas McCavity could symbolize the devil (wanting all of the power and glory and tempting others to follow in his footsteps). The one cat who reminisced about being beautiful and successful (I’m sorry that I forgot her name) had some relations with McCavity (which probably secured her downfall). Without giving too much of the plot away, if you understand this before watching the movie, you will appreciate it more and possibly enjoy it too!
