I grew up watching this constantly (pirated) when I was little and I recently bought it on DVD. Honestly, SUCH a good movie for the straights AND the gays alike. While some may say they were best friends, there was something a lil sapphic about girls living in a cottage together and literally just ditching the men. This movie made me who I am today, a wlw who dreams of a love like theirs. All I want is to live in a cottage in the woods with the love of my life selling flowers, and I will be attributing that characteristic completely to this movie. It truly is a must-watch which definitely has a special place in my heart.
Their quest to defeat a sorceress and her low-key creepy dragon for a friend who they had just met is so sweet and the conflict is exquisite. I have only watched it twice in 2020 and maybe this year would have been better if I had just simply watched it more. I watched it with my wlw friends and gf too actually :)
The soundtrack is also amazing, that I actually have all memorized, with songs like "Connected" and "We're Gonna Find It". Debatably, actually, undoubtably, the best song is "Two Voices, One Song". It is borderline just sapphic poetry and that's what I love about it.
"If I could wish for one thing
I'd take the smile that you bring
Wherever you go in this world I'll come along
Together we dream the same dream
Forever I'm here for you, you're here for me"
There is truly no straight explanation and that's okay. This movie is all in all just a complete immaculate masterpiece and Barbie said wlw rights before we could even get married like she's just so legendary.
In conclusion, a sapphic dream from my childhood that I absolutely adore and always will, and one that everyone should watch :))).
