I think this movie did more to capture the chaos and horror of the Russian Revolution than any other movie I've seen -- say "Reds" or "Dr. Zhivago."
The sequence where Marlena Dietrict wakes up in her palace and starts trying to ring for servants and eventually discovers they have all left. And there she deserted on the vast grounds when this army of peasants comes up over the hill. Says it all. Plus Robert Donat. Always great. Plus one spectacular sequence after another. Never seen so many extras. Wish they would subject it to re-mastering the sound track and cleaning up the somewhat muzzy cinema.
