The story was written through multiple converging storylines that culminated in the final climax. For some reason, in this adaptation, they chose to bounce around and show the present, then past, then middle-past, and present and blah blah blah. It's all well and good if you know the story and have read it, but for new viewers new to the story this is incredibly hard to digest. This was more like throwing darts at a storyboard and editing in that order. They had the cast (mostly), they had the budget, but the cinematic vision tried to be complex and came out jumbled.
